Fixed term contract/secondment opportunity for 12 months
Paediatric Surgery department has 6 full time consultants, 2 Staff grade doctors, 2 senior clinical fellows, 2 Paediatric surgical trainees, 1 Paediatric Urology fellow, 1 CT1 Surgical trainee and two specialty nurses.
The department provides neonatal elective and emergency surgery, Paediatric elective and emergency surgery, endoscopic service, Paediatric urology elective and emergency surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. These patients are seen at Jenny Lind Children's OPD, JPH, Kings Lynn, Ipswich and West Suffolk hospital.
Department has active research and academic timetable and promote career progress.
Part time: 30 hours per week

Main duties of the job
The Physician Associate works alongside the paediatric surgical team to cover Tier 1 rota during out of hours weekdays and weekend cover. This includes acute paediatric surgical CAU assessments, emergency admissions and care of in house admitted paediatric and neonatal surgical patients. The acute out of hour cover will be part of job plan. They assess and examine patients, present them, initiate, and interpret investigations, and help institute recommended treatment. They liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients. Physician Associates are involved in the activities of the Department, including coordinating review patients admitted to their ward/s and providing subsequent management of their case in conjunction with the paediatric urology Team. The role is generally developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee's clinical interests and in line with the needs of the service. Physician Associates will represent the department at local and external meetings as appropriate. They will be supervised by the lead for paediatric urology who will also be a mentor to overview their career development.

To provide expert assistance to the Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Urology Team in the provision of a high quality, patient centred service. The post holders are expected to participate in all aspects of the patient care as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.
- Assess, investigate and treat patients within the scope of practice associated with the role within both Emergency, elective Inpatient, Operating theatres and Outpatient environment as well as patient communication.
- Provide direct clinical care, using established clinical guidelines and consultant and registrar input.
