Job summary
This is a substantive appointment to a Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine (STR3+ Equivalent) within the Stroke Service.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Every encouragement will be given to the candidate to get through his/her exams and also expand his/her experience in all aspects of Stroke Medicine and General Medicine. Intensive training for the MRCP exams and PACES is available in the NNUHFT.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Norwich Community Hospital Trust. Features of the Stroke Service:
- High volume service - up to 1200 strokes per year, 1000+ people assessed in the rapid access TIA Clinic
- Active stroke thrombolysis service 24/7
- TIA clinics providing same day service to most patients
- Stroke Rehabilitation
- Academic Department. Active participation in multi-centre + local studies. Excellent opportunity to become involved in research and clinical audits.
- Members of Consultant Staff include Dr Nav Shinh (Service Director), Dr Kneale Metcalf, Dr Patrick Sutton, Dr Chit Hmu, Dr Joyce Balami, Dr Raj Rajakunjaram. The Neurology Consultants also jointly run the TIA clinic.
- Active participation in the regional stroke teleconference held monthly
- Excellent supporting Radiology, Vascular Studies, Vascular Surgery
There are other integral parts of the Stroke Services:
- 33 bed Acute Stroke Unit (Ingham Ward)
- In-patient rehabilitation - 24 bedded Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (off site at the Norwich Community Hospital). Multi-disciplinary staffing including Clinical Psychology
- Early Supported Discharge - stroke specific

We provide a wide range of consultant-led outpatient services, day case operations and a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). The trust is commemorating 150 years of a hospital in Cromer in 2017/18.
