This a new full time Junior Clinical Fellow post in response to Service need within the Cardiology department.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this post are to support the provision of emergency cardiology care on the wards. However the department is willing to try and meet the training requirements of the successful applicant
The post holders will be responsible for the assessment and management (under consultant supervision) of patients with acute coronary syndromes in the coronary care unit and the emergency assessment unit. As most of these patients will proceed to emergency percutaneous intervention, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the comprehensive management of the patients.
The post holders will also be expected to assist the specialist registrars in the efficient running of the inpatient service (including acute cardiology triage) and may have a regular commitment to the out-patient service.

The post holders will also be expected to assist the specialist registrars in the efficient running of the inpatient service (including acute cardiology triage) and may have a regular commitment to the out-patient service.
Service commitment permitting, the post holder will be able to undertake training in the more invasive aspects of Cardiology. This can be best accommodated in the areas of pacing, coronary angiography and coronary intervention. It must also be noted that there are 9 SpR grade trainees who also require access to the catheter laboratories.
For pacing and devices, the department serves a population of over 750 000, undertaking 550 bradycardia device implantations and 70 ICDs, including a total of around 80 CRT cases per annum. Along with the lead pacing consultant who currently undertakes most complex devices, there are 5 other consultants who implant devices at present. Thus there will be the potential for exposure to and training from a number of different consultants in the field. There is a highly experienced and qualified pacing department with ample opportunity for the fellow to contribute to and participate in device follow-up and programming, and a huge potential for audit and research projects.
