Job summary

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust is pleased to advertise this 1.0 WTE Band 5 Assistant Psychologist post, fixed term for 12 months. This post may become a permanent post 12 months.

The post is situated in our Community Assessment Stabilisation and Treatment Team (CASTT) and will provide input into our expanding Complex Emotional Needs pathway. You will be supported by our Principal and Consultant Clinical Psychologists within our service and an Assistant Psychologist working as part of a warm, passionate and trauma-informed multi-disciplinary provision.

Your role will be to support us to implement a new service delivery model of structured clinical management group treatment programmes within our CAST team and across our 4 CMHTs. You will be expected to prepare patients in their readiness to start treatment via communication through emails, phone calls and a pre-treatment group whereby details and expectations of the group programme will be shared. You will also ensure and support patients to complete questionnaires pre and post intervention, track their progress across the treatment programme, liaise with their care team and collate results and prepare service evaluation reports. There are opportunities to assist in delivering on-line group.

Main duties of the job

You will engage in weekly team supervision sessions alongside your own individual clinical supervision. We are a virtual team and we support hybrid, agile and flexible working approaches in line with our service delivery model.

As an Assistant psychologist within the team you will be encouraged to promote strong working relationships across our services and be supported to develop your own skills and areas of interest as well as being provided with opportunities for further training and CPD.

Our wider team comprises of a supportive Team Manager, Consultant Psychiatrist, Mental Health Practitioners and Peer Support Workers who are all trained in and deliver either SCM, MBT, or both. We prioritise staff wellbeing as an integral component of our offer to service users, and we would welcome someone who can work with us in the ongoing delivery of a psychologically safe team.

  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to work and effectively communicate complex or sensitive information in highly emotive and emotionally charged settings involving conflict and significant personal distress.
