Job summary

Acute Inpatient Senior Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (8a or b7 preceptorship for newly qualified applicants)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Psychologist or Senior Psychologist to work in our Acute and Urgent Care Directorate. The post will be based at Harplands Hospital in SOT across two adult acute inpatient units- one mixed-sex & one male-only ward. Both wards hold AIMS-WA accreditation. This post is available from 15 hours up to 37.50 hours per week. The Trust supports agile working and the ability to work from home part of the time can be facilitated alongside flexible start and finish times.

The candidate will work alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Senior Clinical Psychologist and two Assistant Psychologists. Within the AUCD there are also colleagues working in Older Adults Inpatients with further posts available within Crisis Care and Mental Health Liaison.

This post will be supported through regular clinical supervision offered by the Consultant Psychologist & managerial supervision with the Ward Mger. The candidate will join a friendly & engaged AUC Psychology team supporting innovation. There are opportunities to develop skills in leadership & consultation, as well as nurturing psychological mindedness within the team and embedding psychologically informed ways of working. There is a range of CPD opportunities available to enable you to further develop skills & knowledge in psychological models & team working.

Main duties of the job

This role will encompass high quality direct work which will include psychological assessments, formulations, group work and brief therapeutic work. The role will also include indirect work and consultation to develop a more psychologically-informed understanding of patient presentations. Moreover, the post holder will inform intervention plans by being actively engaged in supervision, reflective practice sessions, CISM (critical incident stress management) support sessions, service development in addition to facilitating teaching and training.

We are seeking a person with an enthusiasm to work within a highly dynamic service offering scope for innovation and creativity. Previous experience of working in an inpatient setting or a considered understanding of the inpatient psychology role is highly advantageous.

For the Senior Psychologist position, you should have substantial post qualification experience of working with service users in adult secondary or tertiary care settings. Applicants with less experience are also encouraged to apply. This post could also offer a Band 7 preceptorship opportunity with progression to Band 8a typically within a period of 2 years.
