Are you a Clinical Psychologist looking to develop your career in Clinical Health Psychology, where youll be supported and valued as you provide nothing less than great healthcare?If so, the North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trusts physical health psychology teamare recruiting to a Senior Clinical Psychologist position, working into the Critical Care Unit of the Royal Stoke University Hospital (part of the UHNM).

We are seeking an individual that meets the person specification and has the required level of competence to undertake all elements of the role autonomously. However, we will also consider applications from experienced individuals that meet most of the person specification and would like the opportunity to undertake this role as a Band 7 preceptorship.

Main duties of the job

The role provides significant opportunity to put your scientist-practitioner role into practice, with an expectation that you will be innovative, develop evidence based practice, carry out clinical research and service development projects.

Core features of the role will include:-

  • Identifying and co-ordination of the effective screening of patients to identify acute psychological needs.
  • Provision of appropriate interventions to manage low mood and anxiety and other psychological distress associated with Critical Care settings (delirium, ICU, PTSD, low mood).
  • Provision of psychological formulations and consultation to staff to support the effective delivery of rehabilitation
  • Supervision of an Assistant Psychologist.
  • Training and supervision of ward staff and rehabilitation co-ordinators.
  • Initiate and forge collaborative relationships
  • On-going service development and evaluation.

The role provides significant opportunity to put your scientist-practitioner role into practice, with an expectation that you will be innovative, develop evidence based practice, carry out clinical research and service development projects.

  1. To provide specialist psychological assessment of adults with mental and physical health difficulties due to critical illness, utilising information from a broad range of structured, psychometric and semi-structured clinical methods. To integrate this information into a psychological formulation of the client and his/her psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.
  2. To provide assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals, the MDT and family members of patients in critical care in order to facilitate emotional adjustment, rehabilitation and promote improved quality of life.
  3. To undertake a range of therapeutic interventions, drawing on a number of psychological models and employing a range of modalities. To make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

  5. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under the care of critical care services integrating the contribution of other professionals on the basis of client need.

  7. To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of service users and their families or carers.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registration as a clinical psychologist

Experience

  • Experience of working effectively as a qualified clinical psychologist with adults with complex mental health needs and physical health conditions.
