This is an exciting opportunity for a full time post for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to work within the Stoke Community directorate based at Roundwell Street Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST3 4PN. This will involve working amongst a well established multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and providing care and treatment for children in the designated catchment area.

Main duties of the job

This will involve assessment and treatment of mental health of children residing within North Stoke catchment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holders responsibilities will include support of junior medical staff and nurse prescribers/Practitioners, for the management of community patients in the North Stoke catchments area. At present, the age range of referrals is up to age 18 years).

Clinical

  • Duties will include being on the on-call rota and therefore post holder needs to be Section 12(2) approved.
  • Regular face to face review of patients
  • Meetings with carers and schools as required
  • Ensuring effective holistic multidisciplinary assessment and care planning with service users, carers, schools, social services and other agencies and the multidisciplinary team
  • Ensuring the physical health needs of patients are met
  • Regular participation in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Supervision of Junior Medical Staff, including review of their outpatient work and clinic letters as appropriate
  • Consultation with Nurse Practitioners/prescribers and Senior multi-disciplinary staff
  • Liaison with other teams where appropriate
  • Consultation with the Urgent Care centre team and Home Treatment team
  • Regular contact and close liaison with local primary care services
  • Planning of all treatment needs including prescription of medication
  • Referral to other providers for assessment and provision of services as required (e.g. social services)
  • Liaison and good working relationship with other agencies
  • Involvement in care planning diagnosis and treatment that is up to date and evidence based,

General duties

  • The post holder will be expected to manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trusts personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences and workplace based assessments.
  • The post holder will also ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operates within the Doctors and the European Working Time directive. Associated admin duties will be expected to be performed as part of the care of patients.
  • As part of the role the post holder will record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively within the Trusts Electronic patient record system.
