We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurses to join our team on the Dorothea Chemotherapy Unit. Chemotherapy experience desirable but not essential.

You will have a strong commitment to excellence in patient care and a high level of communication skills, as you act as the interface between patients and other healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for a specified group of patients.
  • Takes charge of the Day Unit as delegated by the Lead Chemotherapy Nurse for a specified period of time.
  • Act as a Team Leader, delegating appropriate tasks and supervising the standard of care delivered by more junior qualified staff, unqualified staff and learner nurses in the team.
  • Assist the Lead Chemotherapy Nurses in the management of preceptorship of newly qualified staff, return to nursing staff and the mentorship of nursing students and health care support workers.
  • Responsible for the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy

  • Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based upon sound evidence base.
  • To have appropriate skills in the care of the Haematology or Oncology patient to include: Insertion of peripheral cannulao Venipunctureo, Venesection, Management of central venous access devices with appropriate advice, teaching, assessment of patients or other health care professionals in the delivery of care and checking and administration of cytotoxic drugs and other supportive treatments
  • Counselling patients offering psychological and physiological support of problems and side effects during treatment and thereafter.
  • Administration of blood products
  • Preparing patients and equipment for procedures
  • Monitoring patients for signs of adverse reactions, sensitivity, compatibility of drugs and/ or investigations
  • Order and collate results of blood tests appropriate to management of treatment.
  • Undertakes and documents a comprehensive, systematic, and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, social, and spiritual needs of the patient where appropriate.
  • Ensuring patients receive appropriate written information for their investigation, condition, diagnosis.
  • Creates and utilises opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.
