We have an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, highly motivated Coventry & Warwickshire Community Dental Service based in the City of Coventry Health Centre.
We require an enthusiastic and conscientious Dental Nurse to join our professional and supportive team of Dentists, Dental Therapists and Dental Nurses to provide patient focused community dentistry for people with more complex needs and conditions.
The service also comprises an Oral Health Promotion team, a domiciliary service, sedation service and provides regular GA sessions at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire & George Eliot Hospital.

Main duties of the job
This new post holder will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of special care and paediatric dentistry, incorporating Inhalation and IV Sedation, General Anaesthetic sessions and domiciliary care.
You will be responsible for assisting the clinician in the day-to-day running of the surgery working under the supervision of the Senior/Specialist Dental Nurses, Governance and Operational Leads.
The Community Dental Services are based across Coventry & Warwickshire. The service currently operates Monday to Friday.

Job responsibilities
- To provide clinical assistance for a Clinician in the performance of their clinical duties which cover a range of procedures from full mouth dental examinations to minor oral surgery, in a clinical setting.
- To set up, prepare, and close the Dental Surgery to ensure that cross infection policy and procedures are followed.
- Responsible for the cleaning and sterilisation process of dental instruments complying with the procedures in the control of infection policy to ensure patient decontamination security.
- To ensure that instruments, equipment, x-rays, record cards and electronic records are available to the Clinician prior to treatment. To assist in the dental radiography procedure under the supervision of an operator, process dental x-rays following the Quality assurance Policy.
- To ensure accurate preparation and mixing of dental materials and medicaments which require a high degree of precision, for correct presentation.
- To undertake the maintenance of equipment and cleaning of the surgery, including routine minor maintenance of dental equipment and instruments and provide regular equipment inventories.
- To ensure that emergency medical drugs and equipment are available on a sessional basis.
- To anticipate the needs of the Clinician during all clinical procedures, with an awareness of additional needs of the client groups of the Service (medically compromised, mentally ill and physical disabilities).
- To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure the efficient smooth running of the clinical sessions.
- To ensure that adequate stock levels, standards/protocols are maintained and monitored.
- Responsibility for ensuring ordering and stock control of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen cylinders and to replace these cylinders, as required.
- To monitor the levels of stationery and order, as required.
- Prepare for and assist in R.A sedation.To be responsible for all safety checks of the R.A machine prior to use.
- Sedation qualified Dental Nurses to work within the IV team and to follow the Sedation protocols as laid down by the Special Care Dental Service.
- Follow clinic protocols to process patient referrals and book appointments.
- To be part of an effective clinical team, enabling the team/ward/service to deliver to the highest possible care standards, ensuring that evidence based practice is used.
- To act as an excellent role model.
- Participation in induction programmes for all professions - Clinicians and Nurses within a Specialist Dental Service.
- To undertake other duties to meet the changing needs and priorities of the Dental Service, as determined by your manager and in accordance with the grade of the post.
