Main duties of the job
The role will be split between domiciliary care and clinic based care for adults and children. The commitment to domiciliary provision is the basis for the award of a golden hello. Care pathways will involve conscious sedation and general anaesthesia. Epidemiology fieldwork, quality improvement and audit are further aspects of the role.

Job responsibilities
The role will focus on provision of care in residential settings and clinic based care of adults and children with dental anxiety or other access to dental service complexity.
Clinical Duties
- Provision of high quality special care dentistry consistent with contemporary standards of best clinical practice
- Delivering dental treatment in a manner which respects the dignity and needs of each individual patient
- Provision of care on a domiciliary basis appropriate to clinical need
- Clinical decision making on the appropriateness of patients to the service and prioritisation of patients according to clinical need
- Providing sedation using RA inhalation
- Undertaking treatment under GA as part of the rota, subject to need
- Undertaking fieldwork for dental epidemiological studies including participation in data collection, and any training and development activities including calibration, subject to need
Communication
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with GDPs, GPs, Medical and Surgical Consultants and the full multidisciplinary team in order to secure appropriate referral of patients and effective shared care arrangements
- Communicate effectively with the Dental Headquarters staff regarding clinical and nursing cover, time keeping, and sickness reporting and leave arrangements.

- Recent experience (in last 5 years) providing general dental treatment
- Good range of clinical knowledge
- Knowledge of issues of consent, the Mental Capacity Act and their correlation of treating Special Care Patients
Desirable
- Clinical Experience of a range of SCD including learning disabilities, physical/neurological conditions, medically comprised, phobic mental health problems, tolerance and behavioral needs
- Experience in providing treatment under inhalation sedation
- Knowledge of clinical governance relative to dentistry
