**32.5 hours including at least 2 late nights per week and bank holiday working on rota basis.
Messengers work on a 2 week rota - alternating each week between mornings and afternoon (Please see below).
There will be occasions where additional shifts can be picked up via NHSP to support annual leave, sickness and service provisions including weekends on an ad-hoc basis
Core hours of work:
Week 1 -Monday to Friday: 9am - 4pm
Week 2 -Monday to Friday: 11am - 6pm
(Late nights after 6pm are accrued as TOIL)**
Main duties of the job
- To provide a delivery service for medicines (including Controlled Drugs, IV fluids) between the pharmacy and Wards/Departments of the Trust site
- Assist with the internal processing, movement and supply of pharmacy stocks.
- To help pharmacy assistants receive goods arriving at pharmacy especially in loading and unloading heavy goods and pallet.
Please note: This role requires lots of walking, moving and handling of heavy fluid boxes around the hospital site.

Job responsibilities
- To collect prescriptions from wards and deliver medication, including Controlled Drugs, according to pre-determined schedule and as required.
- To ensure all medicines are delivered at the end of the day.
- To collect pharmacy boxes from wards and departments, return same to pharmacy and prepare ready for other staff in accordance with departmental standards.
- To assist other staff with receipt of goods, and sign for them,(other than controlled drugs which must be presented to a pharmacist or registered technician to check and sign) and correctly locate them within stores, in accordance with departmental standards.
- To assemble bulk fluids from picking lists and distribute them to the designated locations (wards/departments) around the hospital.
- To assist other staff with re-distribution of stocks within pharmacy.
- To remove and dispose of departmental refuse as required, in accordance with Trust standards.
- To prepare products in a form suitable for distribution to wards and departments, in accordance with departmental procedures.
- To maintain the stores and ward stock distribution area in a clean and tidy condition, ensuring that gangways and fire escapes are not blocked so that there are no avoidable Health and Safety risks to anyone.
- To attend departmental meetings as and when required.
- To undertake such other reasonable duties as may be necessary to ensure the smooth running of the pharmacy service as determined by the senior staff.
- To dispose of packaging to an appropriate place as required by pharmacy and Trusts waste management policies.
- To co-operate with other members of pharmacy staff as necessary, to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
- To participate in rotational work schedules, including bank holiday working.
- Complete any training in a timely manner
