Job Title: ED Porter

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week (13 x 11.5 hours shifts every 4 weeks. Shift times are 07:30-20:00 and 11:30-00:00)

Perm/Fixed Term: Permanent

Salary: £23,615 per annum

The main duty of the post holder is to provide a portering service to the Emergency Department, support patient transfers to the wards and to carry out routine ADHOC duties - supporting with department deliveries.

Liaising with the nurse in charge of emergency department and operational teams

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a portering service to all wards and departments. To escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley.
  • To transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments.
  • To collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department.
  • To distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested.
  • To assist at cardiac arrests.
  • To transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials.
  • To report any suspicious incidents and assist where necessary.
  • When required, assist with low level security requests.
  • Work within emergency department.

  • Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
  • Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire. training and Dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases.
  • Training in safe handling of all medical gases/ safe handling of liquid nitrogen.
  • Holder of Clean UK Driving Licence.
