- An exciting opportunity has arisen to join expanding team in our UGI CNS team for a Band 6 18-month fixed term contract.
- This post will provide a specialist service to UGI Cancer patients throughout their care pathway including the overarching responsibility for the support of patients living with and beyond cancer.
- Act as a key worker and point of contact and a professional resource for patients, their carers and the multi professional team relating to UGI cancers to ensure an expert Clinical Nurse Specialist within our Nursing Service that provides specialist nursing care for all patients, including those with complex symptom management issues.
- Working trust wide in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.
Main duties of the job
- Implemented by the post holder and delegated to other members of the team.
- Manages clinical caseload on an ongoing basis including making modifications within prescribed parameters reporting back to the Consultant.
- Autonomously performs specialist nurse procedures in line with Trust protocols and NMC guidance.
- Provides advice in relation to the care of individual or groups of patients.
- Liaises with other nursing staff caring for clients within the specialty in order to provide specialist knowledge to optimise patient care.
- Responsible for the effective management of allocated resources.
- Responsible for procurement and maintenance of physical assets and supplies for the service.
- Represents the Trust at external events, networking with professional colleagues to maximise the opportunities of promoting the Trust and benchmarking practice with peers.
- Involvement in clinical audit
- 24-hour GP notification audit.
- 25 Appropriateness & timeliness of urgent suspect cancer referrals. Assist in the gathering of information for ongoing audit projects.
- Co-ordination of patient's pathway.
- Monitoring of MDT standards in conjunction with MDT co-ordinator.
- Developmental opportunities to undertake further progression and commence 2 week wait clinics.
- Provide advice and guidance to all levels of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals and also non-professional carers who are supporting patients with UGI cancers.
