Job Title: Specialist Respiratory Physiologist

Hours per week:37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday: 4 day week)(compressed hours available too)

Perm/Fixed Term: Permanent

Salary: £29,970 - £42,618 per annum pro rata (dependent on experience)

Main duties of the job

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and well-motivated qualified band 6 Respiratory Physiologist, with the relevant experience to join our busy Cardio-Respiratory department. The successful candidate will expected to be an effective member of the Respiratory team providing a high standard of physiological measurements including a wide range of basic and advanced respiratory, sleep and oesophageal services and patient care to both out-patients and in-patients.

We are looking for an experienced clinical physiologist with significant experience, with their ARTP part 1 and 2 qualification or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years post qualification in a lung function and sleep setting. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and proactive, able to communicate with a range of disciplines, medical and nursing staff. Able to demonstrate good organisational skills able, to multitask and prioritise effectively and deputise in the absence of the Lead Respiratory Physiologist

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • 2 years post qualification experience and a further 2 as a Specialist Respiratory Physiologist in broad range of lung function procedures with acquired highly specialist knowledge and experience.

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Respiratory Function) or equivalent level of experience
  • Member of Registration Council for Clinical Physiology registered
  • Immediate Life Support

Desirable

  • MSc Respiratory Physiology or equivalent experience consolidated by short specialist course training and self-guided study

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Organisational skills to fulfil role of section manager including, time management, proactive planning and problem solving
  • Good written and oral communication
  • Ability to form positive working relationships
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Good previous health record

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • To obtain the best results from patients in a variety tests that require encouragement and motivational tools
  • To be able to deal sensitively with anxious or aggressive patients and relatives attending the department
  • Frequent concentration is required to interpret and analyse test data and results with a high level of concentration during patient test procedures
  • To provide expert opinion and seek co-operation from medical colleagues regarding appropriateness of referrals and make the final and on occasions contentious, decision where changes to the referral form are required or if testing is contraindicated

  • To be able to manoeuvre patients in wheelchairs
  • To be able to assist patients to transfer from wheelchair to equipment chair
  • To be able to move heavy equipment due to lack of space
  • To be able to perform forced breathing manoeuvres regularly to demonstrate to and motivate patients.
