We are looking to employ a Sister/Charge Nurse to assist and support the leadership team to innovate services and care for our staff.
Our department runs virtual and face to face clinics and is part of a larger service in the Clinical Support Services Directorate. We support growth and education in the workforce and fund speciality specific courses, as agreed at learning panels.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
- Deliver a high standard of care without direct supervision, based upon a sound evidence base.
- To undertake and document a comprehensive systematic and accurate nursing assessment and management of patients where appropriate.
- Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients.
- To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff
- Management responsibility, monitoring this through spot checks and care quality indicators outcome measures.
- Influence and monitor the standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines.
- To supervise and support nursing staff in all aspects of care and within sphere of competency, promoting good working relationships and positive team dynamics.
- Ensure that staff have the knowledge, skills and resources to carry out care delegated to them, including complex dressings and assisting with surgical procedures
- To establish effective working relations with all members of the multi disciplinary team to promote good communication, using tact and persuasive skills in managing difficult situations.

- Responsible for standards of cleanliness. To ensure a safe, clean environment is maintained and evidenced by safety records completed on a daily basis and to manage and report any deficits as required.

Managerial
- To deputise for the Outpatient Manager in his/her absence and represent at meetings both internal and external as required.
- Responsible for day to day management of nursing staff and undertake the daily safety brief and team meetings as required.
- Participate in the recruitment process for staff below Band 6.
- Assist the Outpatients Manager to maintain compliance with statutory and Mandatory training.
- Conduct appraisals for designated staff within the team in line with the Trust appraisal process.
- Ensure staff are supported with their development and completion of competency programme, to enable them to fulfil their role. Create an environment which facilitates learning and structured personal development for nursing staff to ensure own competence and own personal development plan is reviewed during appraisal with the Outpatient Manager.
- Ensure local induction takes place for all new temporary workers and records are maintained.
- In the absence of the Outpatient Manager, ensure the electronic roster is an accurate reflection of the hours staff have worked.
- Ensure that staffing levels on a day to day basis are adequate to provide safe and effective care delivery, maximising the resources that are available and in line with the roster policy.
- Accountable for efficient and economical use of departmental supplies.
- To contribute to the planning and organising of service improvements, undertaking audits as required.
- Accountable for the safe custody and usage of prescriptions and medication in accordance with Trust policy.
- To actively promote the use of Friends and Family cards to gain patient feedback and develop any necessary action plan.
- To implement safe working practices with regards to the Trusts Clinical Governance/Clinical Risk Strategies.
- Responsible for ensuring all incidents are correctly reported and support the Outpatient Manager to investigate accidents, incidents and complaints and implement corrective actions where necessary.
