Main duties of the job

The clinical team at GEH is eager to further develop the UTC. Successful candidates will be encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions, and will have the chance to spearhead improvement projects if they wish.

They will be responsible for managing acute illnesses and minor injuries in both adults and children.

The UTC is bolstered by a dedicated reception team and Emergency Care Practitioners.

It is equipped to order blood tests, x-rays, and make referrals for specialist advice.

Potential candidates are invited to visit the site for a tour of the facilities and to discuss the role more comprehensively with the clinical lead and operational manager.

Job responsibilities

Since October 2022, the service has expanded beyond traditional GP services to include additional low acuity patients who meet specific Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) criteria.

Senior clinicians from the Emergency Department (ED) have been instrumental in establishing this service within the UTC.

We are currently seeking to enhance our workforce to provide a more robust staffing model.

Consultant support from the ED is available during shifts, with the service located adjacent to the ED for necessary face-to-face discussions.

  • Evidence of effective leadership (e.g. evidence of leading innovations or improvements

Qualification(s) and Professional Training

Essential

  • Registered GP (CCT or CESR)
  • Experience of working in Urgent Treatment Centre
  • Full registration with General Medical Council

Quality / service improvement or audit

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical governance, including the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives

Desirable

  • Evidence of a portfolio of audit / quality improvement projects, including evidence that the audit loop has been closed and evidence.

Clinical Skills and Abilities
