37.5 hours per week - Permanent

Main duties of the job

The Radiology Department Assistant will be directly responsible for the safe completion of delegated duties and assisted patient care.

Provide support and assistance to patients and staffas required.

Assist the radiographers, radiologists and nurses with the examination and care of radiology patients.

Assist with clerical procedures and image processing as required.

Participate in training to further develop the role.

Job responsibilities

Carry out patient care to maintain the safety of the patient, under the supervision of a trained registered practitioner:

  • Anticipate the needs of the patient to ensure comfort, safety and dignity at all times
  • Assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised radiographic examinations
  • To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests
  • Establish and maintain a good communication channel to support patient confidence
  • Assist radiologists and radiographers in performing examinations, attending to the patients welfare at all times
  • Process images as required
  • Move x-ray equipment to wards / departments to allow examinations to be completed in a timely manner
  • Escort patients to other departments as appropriate
  • Be friendly and helpful towards staff, patients, their relatives and friends in all clinical areas and on the telephone
  • Receive patients, relatives and colleagues into the department and direct to the appropriate area
  • Ensure patients property is kept in line with Trust Policy
  • Ensure the patients environment and all equipment is kept clean and stored safely
  • To use computerised systems to assist the radiographer and to optimise patient throughput

  • To be able to transport patients using wheelchair/trolley or frequently throughout a normal shift and will require moderate effort.
  • Frequently be able to deal with patients and relatives during distressing situations.
  • To be able to apply normal care and attention throughout the shift
  • To deal with competing demands for attention.
