Job Title: Practice Educator

Hours per week: 37.5 Permanent

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust has a developed highly skilled and adaptable team of Practice Educators and Facilitators for the nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce. The team supports Student Nurses, Trainee Nursing Associates, Health Care Support Workers, Internationally Educated Nurses, Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates in their practice education and development.

Due to the promotion of one of our team, we are looking to recruit a Practice Educator to support nurses in the first year of their career and another to support nursing practice and development post Preceptorship.

Excellent leadership and communication skills are essential. The role will be responsible for ensuring support, training and assessment is in place for the Trust nursing workforce from Preceptorship and beyond.

The successful candidate must be passionate about education and committed to the development of others to ensure our early career and mid to late career nurses are supported in their practice education and development. As well as acting as an excellent role model.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Practice Education and Development Lead and Head of Practice Education to ensure that the registered non-medical clinical workforce has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide a high standard of patient care.

Develop and facilitate specific onboarding programmes following recruitment.

Develop and lead on programmes for those who are new to the Trust or seeking development.

Take responsibility for a range of clinical practice development projects as delegated by the Practice Education and Development Lead.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical/Professional

  • Act professionally, developing the role of the nurse and nurse associate in the best interests of the patient and profession in accordance with the relevant professional body codes of conduct. To act as an ambassador for the Trust.
  • Working closely with the Heads of Nursing, Matrons and Ward Managers to ensure the nursing workforce is meeting the needs of the clinical areas.
  • Develop innovative approaches for retention, drawing on best practice nationally and internationally.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders critical to successful nurse onboarding and retention.
  • To facilitate a culture of accountability and governance at all levels and report to the practice education and development lead any concerns around professional practice or any issues that pose a threat to safety or service quality.
  • Lead and manage the Trusts Preceptorship Programme / Career Development Programmes
  • Support integration of newly qualified nurses and new starters into the Trust workforce.
  • Ensure that evidence-based practice is developed and implemented to improve patient care through competency workbooks.

  • Work collaboratively with other professional groups to maximise development opportunities and interprofessional learning opportunities.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate competency-based training programmes and facilitate learning opportunities to meet required development of the non-medical, clinical workforce at all levels.
