Job Title -Clincial Nurse Specialist Chronic Pain

Hours per week- 37.5 Hours Per Week - Part Time Hours would be considered

Perm/Fixed Term - Permanent

Salary- £35,392 - £42,618 per annum

We are looking for a practitioner to join our expanding chronic pain team working in clinic and in theatre, delivering treatments to patients. The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and effectively coordinate and deliver an expert nursing service within this specialised area, developing evidence-based nursing care and providing clinical leadership through effective monitoring and implementation of standards.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a practitioner as part of the multi-disciplinary chronic pain service
  • To effectively coordinate and deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area
  • To develop evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines to facilitate the care of patients suffering from chronic pain
  • To provide clinical leadership through effective monitoring and implementation of standards
  • To take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area.
  • To deputise for the Senior Sister in their absence

To take a lead role in the management of the chronic pain patients.

Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based upon a sound evidence base.

Make advanced comprehensive pain assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation using investigative and analytical skills.

Undertake and document a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical social and spiritual needs of the patient where appropriate.

To follow up patients as appropriate and ensure all relevant information is available to enable patients to make an informed choice about their treatment.

To coordinate a seamless service through the development of enhanced multidisciplinary team processes and communication.

To lead and develop the specialist element of the care pathway for chronic pain patients

Instigate appropriate action/treatment ensuring effective communication with the patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary team where appropriate.

2.0 Managerial

Ensure clinical care and documentation meet the required standard.

Assist with the implementation of the Nursing Strategy

Assist with the management of ward resources in an efficient and effective manner.

Support Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents within the ward area.

To work alongside clinical staff demonstrating good practice and share experience and learning

3.0. Education

Facilitate the development of nursing practice founded on up-to-date information and research.

Create a learning environment, which actively facilitate learning.

Participate in service audits, reflection and monthly MDT meetings to move the pain team forward.

4.0 Patient Experience

Work with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure high quality patient care

Review patients either within the clinic setting or virtually

Support service collection/ monitoring and report of patient experience / patient questionnaires

5.0 Quality / Research & Development

Working with senior leaders in Clinical Support Services, to support, collect, audit and service data

With the Band 7 identify areas of service quality, identifying areas for risk and improvement, using the Trust risk reporting system as appropriate.
