An exciting opportunity has arisen to join expanding team in our UGI CNS team. This post will provide a specialist service to UGI Cancer patients throughout their care pathway including the overarching responsibility for the support of patients living with and beyond cancer.

Main duties of the job

Act as a key worker and point of contact and a professional resource for patients, their carers and the multi professional team relating to UGI cancers to ensure an expert Clinical Nurse Specialist within our Nursing Service that provides specialist nursing care for all patients, including those with complex symptom management issues.

Working trust wide in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.

Provide advice and guidance to all levels of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals and also non-professional carers who are supporting patients with UGI cancers.

Provide services to facilitate and maintain the optimum quality of life for patients and relatives during investigations, throughout the course of the illness including palliative care.

Function as a key member of the Multidisciplinary Team, working closely with the Medical/Oncology Consultants, community teams including district nurses and community palliative care teams.

Liaise with lead cancer nurse on matters relevant to the role, practice delivery, up to date guidelines and professional issues, incorporating clinical supervision.

  • Knowledge of equipment and degree of accuracy.
  • Provide physical, psychological and social support for patients/clients diagnosed with An Upper GI condition.
  • Nurse led Upper GI clinic.
  • Participate/ organise meetings for Upper GI groups, to enhance the development of Upper GI conditions across Primary and Secondary health care.
  • Provide educational sessions to multi-disciplinary groups (Medical staff, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Occupational therapists and external interest groups).
  • Project management improved communication between primary and secondary care
  • Undertake clinical trials.
