The CESR Trainee Speciality Doctor (CT3/ST3+) Urology is a full-time position within the George Eliot Hospital Urology Department, equivalent to post core training in surgery trainee wanting to specialise in Urology. The role holder will provide independent diagnostic urology services and some independent operating, contributing to the delivery of a core, general urological service. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 6 months experience in urology. The role includes on-call service commitments and active participation in clinical research, surgical educational activities, audit, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

A training programme will be developed and customised to the selected candidate which will include guidance and training, as appropriate for selection into ST3 training posts or a CESR application and also rotation / placement.

Main duties of the job

The post will have ward rounds in conjunction with registrar and CT colleagues, and supported by the on-call consultantelective duties in outpatients and theatre consistent with the interests of the department providing a broad training in general and specialist urology.

Undertaking ward roundsAttending consultant ward rounds as required.Admitting trauma patients when on-callAttendance at outpatient clinics and theatre as required.Requesting investigations/treatment for patients as necessary

Providing cover for colleagues in emergency and unforeseen situations.Participation at teaching and regular clinical meetings held within the hospital

  • Ensure independent decision making to manage urology inpatients in conjunction with the consultant urologist on call of the week
  • Provide pre-operative preparation and post-operative care for urology patients..
  • Perform template/mapping biopsies of the prostate after undergoing appropriate training.
  • Perform diagnostics clinics, such as flexible cystoscopy sessions
  • Fulfill on-call service commitments as a middle-grade doctor.

  • Collaborate with General Surgical colleagues to ensure emergency care provision as this is done in close partnership with General Surgery

  • Stay updated with current research and advancements in urological treatments.
