We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills to join our Clinical Coding Team. As a Senior Clinical Coder, you will perform a vital function as part of the Trust's Information and Performance Service to ensure that the clinical coding team functions effectively.
Applicants must be well organised and be able to work as a part of a team or on their own, with good time management and communication skills.
We also offer a limited Working from Home Rota and are working towards implementing an EPR system which will create the opportunity for further flexible working.
The salary will include 15% recruitment and retention premium
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals with excellent clinical coding, analytical and organisational skills to join our friendly team.
You will have successfully passed the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) and have a minimum of 2 years post qualification coding experience.
Experience of coding across multiple specialities is essential with the ability to mentor less experienced coders.
You will be able to work to strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and in accordance with national standards and requirements of clinical coding
Planning and prioritising own and others workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met is a must.
Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology is essential.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To accurately abstract and interpret clinical information from clinical records for both inpatient and outpatient activities.
- To translate clinical information using ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications and input the data onto the patient administration system.
- To be fully conversant with the relevant publications of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures (OPCS4).
- Planning and prioritising own and others workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.
- To work with the Clinical Coding Manager to ensure all coding timescales are met.
- To assist the Clinical Coding Manager/Clinical Coding Auditor/Clinical Coding Trainer on preparation of local agreements and coding policies.
- To liaise with clinicians to deal with complicated enquiries regarding clinical coding. Escalate on-going coding challenges to the Clinical Coding Manager.
- To communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses, non-clinical staff, and managers both internal and external to the trust on clinical coding issues which require clinical coding input.
- Work closely with the division and advise on data recording practices to ensure clinical coding accurately reflects care delivered.
- To act as the lead contact with the designated division and associated specialties, working with both clinical and operational managers to resolve coding queries, and communicate complex coding rules and standards to ensure accuracy and consistency of information
- Team leader responsibility and would require that the post holder to provide internal training and support to junior clinical coding members.
- To participate in regular training to ensure that coding/leadership skills are continually being broadened and updated, by attending specialty workshops and in-house training as outlined in personal development plan. Be responsible for maintaining own portfolio of evidence.
- To participate in the departmental process for appraisal and personal development, ensuring that mandatory training is completed as appropriate.
- Assist in documenting and managing annual leave and sickness.
- Assist in the maintenance of a team based working environment including the appraisal of junior clinical coding staff.
- Embrace new ways of working and new technology.
- To monitor stock levels within the department and to place orders as required and in the absence of the department Manager
