Job summary

The Catering Assistant plays a vital role in the delivery of nutrition to patients, staff and visitors. George Eliot is proud to provide high quality food to approximately 350 patients every day and offers approximately 2'500 staff on site good nutritious food via Raveloe Restaurant.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Role

  1. Communicates information with/to colleagues, staff, suppliers, patients and public.
  2. To support the wider catering team in the provision of all catering services including covering and supporting other catering roles as required by the needs of the service.
  3. Preparation of sandwiches, salads, fruit for the patients/restaurant and hospitality/function services.
  4. The service of food in the restaurant, coffee shop, including setting up and clearing down of service area.
  5. Cleaning and deep cleaning duties as required within the catering department, including patients crockery, cutlery, service utensils, food boxes, patient trays, flight dishwasher, floors, fridges, freezers and Cook-Chill hold rooms
  6. To be responsible for the general cleaning and deep cleaning of the Restaurant, servery area, washing up area, store rooms, function/Hospitality room, servery equipment, coffee machines, crockery, cutlery, tables, and all areas within the Restaurant.
  7. To ensure basic food hygiene standards are maintained and breeches are communicated appropriately and in a timely manner, in accordance with the departmental food safety documentation.
  8. To record accurate temperatures in line with food preparation and cooking procedures - HACCP
  9. To serve and replenish food provided in the restaurant. Cash handling, till operation and to cash up as and when required.
  10. To ensure high levels of customer service when performing Front of House duties, ensuring barriers of communication are overcome.
  11. To ensure communication with patients, public and staff are responded to in a polite, friendly and courteous manner.
  12. Communicate and liaise with staff across the Trust, suppliers and other external organisations.
  13. Concentration with using cooking and or cleaning equipment is required occasional/frequent.
  14. Be responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy appearance observing good personal hygiene practices.
  15. To practise safe handling of chemicals, always following manufacturers instructions and ensuring COSHH regulations are adhered to.
  16. To comply with all current Food Hygiene Legislation and attend necessary training to the role.
  17. To undertake and gain the level two food hygiene qualification.
  18. To observe correct use and care of equipment reporting faults and defects as necessary
  19. Attends mandatory training and completes staff surveys and audits as required.
  20. Working in hot, humid, cold and noisy kitchen environments.
  21. Ensure manual handling is followed when lifting boxes of food items.
