George Eliot Hospital are looking to recruit Specialty Doctors to join the Paediatric Department. The post is a 10PA role and job plan will be confirmed upon appointment.
The successful candidate will join our team at a very exciting time. We are transforming the Paediatric model at Nuneaton to put team working and career development at the heart of our service.
There are 2 posts available, and the candidate will work alongside the existing 2 middle grade colleagues as well as a team of 8 consultants, 8 tier one staff, and 3 advanced nurses in an integrated multi-professional model of care.
Our vision is to provide first class care to the children and families of Nuneaton and North Warwickshire.
Main duties of the job
To enable the delivery of this style of care consultants are resident on call at night at the weekend. During the week the middle grade tier are resident at night with the consultant available from home after 21.30. There is also a tier one of junior doctors and physicians associates as well as rostered support from advanced clinical practitioners both in Paediatrics and neonatal care. The resident nature of the evening and night work provides for substantial time off during the week because daytime activity is adjusted accordingly.

The George Eliot Hospital has 330 beds and provides services for Paediatrics, General Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Haematology, General Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Orthopaedics. There is a 24-hour accident and emergency service. Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Rheumatology and ENT services are provided on an outpatient basis at the George Eliot, with inpatient services being available in Coventry.

Duties of this post
To provide, with Consultant supervision, general Paediatric and Neonatal services within George Eliot NHS Trust for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department
To undertake General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics and other special interest clinics as appropriate to the skills/interests of the post holder
The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients (including activity data as required) in line with Trust Policy.
On Call Duties
To participate in the 1:6 middle grade rota The rota is a combination of shorter on call days during the week (13.00-21.30) and longer ones at the weekend (08.30-21.30) Clinic days and SPA time are allocated to normal working day shifts (9-5)
To participate in the resident 12 hour shift night rota. These are on weekday nights (21.00-09.00). There is a rest day provided directly before and after each night shift. There are no night shifts routinely on Saturday or Sunday as the consultant team covers them.
To perform urgent (acute) Child Safeguarding Medicals when the concern is in the category of physical abuse. The on call Consultant would always be available to support with such cases as needed. .
Leadership
Provide clinical leadership to the junior Paediatric team across all settings
Development of leadership skills and attributes will be encouraged in this role.
Clinical Governance
Participate in local and national audit as agreed with the service.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives e.g. CQUIN initiatives
Participate in the management of clinical risk and patient safe
Education
Maintain continuing professional development in accordance with the requirements of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
Support the continuing professional development of ACPs, PAs and clinical nurse specialists
Participate in undergraduate, postgraduate and multi-professional education programmes
Supervise junior staff in the workplace and fulfil associated duties such as Supervised Learning Events and recording in the e portfolio
Revalidation
The Trust has the required arrangements in place, as laid down by the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health, to ensure that all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors going through the revalidation process.
