About the Role

One day a week will be dedicated to Cardiac MRI in Worcester initially but with the appointee key in developing on site scanning in Hereford. Previous NHS management experience will be key in developing the service. Stress echo and support / cross cover for colleague absence for TOW would be offered in addition. The current team run a mostly generic team based service for both in and outpatients, and it is envisaged that this approach would continue with the new appointee taking a full role in the service and future service development and design.

Main duties of the job

The main duties and responsibilities of the Consultants are:

  • Consultant of the week 7-Day - Inpatient (1:8 weeks)
  • General Cardiology on call out of hours - fixed weekday (not covered prospectively) and 1:8 at the weekends (Friday - Sunday)
  • One day per week Worcester based dedicated to Cardiac MRI
  • Outpatient duties - 2 sessions per week including 1x F2F and 1x virtual clinic
  • Sub-speciality interest Cardiac MRI and Echo
  • Support Professional Activities (SPA) - 2.5 PAs allocated within job plan
  • Lead the development of an on site Cardiac MRI scanning service in Hereford
  • Engage fully with the Hospital Strategy and the Strategic direction of the wider Trust
  • Undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running development of their clinical department
  • Consultants are expected to be involved in all areas of clinical governance, clinical audit, annual appraisal and an appropriate CPD programme, as well as GMC appraisal and re-validation (allocated time within job plan)
  • No GIM component to the job, but occasionally patients with GIM problems are admitted to the Cardiology beds

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with License to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR
  • BSE accreditation
  • Actively pursuing BSE TOE
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualifications

Desirable

  • Higher Degree (eg MD/PhD)
  • Formal qualification in other imaging modality (EACVI CMR, BSE, etc.)
  • Interest in Cardiac CT
