Job summary
We seek to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in diabetes +/- endocrinology for a period of 12 months, fixed term post.
This post attracts 10PAs and an on-call supplement of 5%.
The department runs a consultant of the week rota and these shifts are 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 9pm (non-resident from 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays). From 2pm, a twilight consultant provides additional support for children protection medicals and advice and guidance and then works with a senior resident and two tier 1 doctors between 4.30pm and 9.30pm.
The successful candidate will work alongside the consultant lead for diabetes with our excellent paediatric diabetes team, which includes three Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and two youth workers. An interest in growth and endocrinology would be welcome but not essential. Main duties of the job
o To participate in the Consultant of the Week (CoW) and twilight rota. The Consultant of the Week is responsible for all the patients seen by the paediatric team for a consecutive period Monday - Thursday or Friday - Sunday, the week is split to provide better work-life balance. The Consultant of the Week will have no other routine commitments such as clinics. The twilight consultant works evening shifts Mondays - Fridays so that the CoW finishes their shift at 5.00pm.
o To participate in the resident 12 hour shift night rota (4 nights per 10 week cycle). There is a rest day provided directly before and after each night shift.

o To undertake out patient clinics in diabetes (4 per 10 week cycle) and general paediatrics (up to 10 per 10 week cycle). If the successful candidate also has interest in endocrinology, there would be up to 6 growth and endocrine clinics per 10 week cycle (to replace general paediatric clinics) and 4 full day joint endocrinology clinics with a consultant from Birmingham Children's Hospital (included in Job Plan)
