Job summary
The post holder will serve as a HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Microbiology department, providing advanced microbiological analysis and surveillance to support patient diagnosis and treatment. T
In additional to rotating though various sections of the laboratory, the post holder will take a lead in critical areas such as Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, Training, and equipment management as directed by the Laboratory Manager. They will supervise and provide professional oversight for Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Assistant Practitioners (AP) and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA), ensuring high standards of technical performance and adherence to established protocols.
The post holder will be responsible for the technical validation, interpretation, and reporting of test results, ensuring these support effective patient care. They will work independently, take responsibility for managing sections of the laboratory, and may service as lead specialist for specific tests, projects, or audits.
This position is part of a 7 day service, including on call duties, requiring flexibility and availability to meet the needs of the department, especially in urgent situations. The post holder will be instrumental in implementing quality improvements and ensuring that the laboratory meets the standards required by the laboratory's QMS & UKAS (ISO 15189) accreditation.
Main duties of the job
To lead in maintaining and advancing the laboratory's quality systems to meet UKAS requirements (ISO 15189) (as directed by the laboratory manager)
To lead in verification / validation of equipment / processes / methods
To oversee / maintain / lead on departmental and pan path audits.
To oversee / maintain / lead the Quality Management System within the department.
To oversee / maintain / lead the electronic staff records including leave / sickness / back to works
To oversee / maintain / lead the staff appraisals / training requirements
To oversee / maintain / assist the manager with budgets including staff overtime / oncall payments
To oversee / maintain / lead on procurement.
