Main duties of the job

This post is designed to support development in medical education for the post-holder through planning and delivery of teaching to medical students, junior doctors and multidisciplinary teams, whilst maintaining and progressing with clinical experience within their own specialty. We will also encourage and financially support the successful candidate to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (or equivalent credits).

Weoffer Consultant-led opportunities with additional support to undertake management and leadership training, quality improvement projects, research, regional & national presentations and publication.

There is a fully equipped Simulation Suite including the 3G Sim Man, which provides a further dimension to medical teaching in Hereford plus a new multi-professional Clinical Skills and Simulation Academy. We receive students from the Universities of Birmingham, Aston and Worcester, including the inaugural Three Counties Medical School.

About us

Wye Valley NHS Trust is a member of an NHS Foundation Group with South Warwickshire NHS FT , the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Located on the border with Wales in the shadow of the Black Mountains, we provide acute and community services across Herefordshire and into parts of Powys and run Hereford County Hospital and the community hospitals in Bromyard, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye.

Worcestershire is our neighbouring county. The post holder will be required to travel between sites.

We are a progressive and forward looking trust with ambitious plans to improve quality and integrate patient pathways through close collaborative working with our partners to deliver the quality of care we'd want for our family and friends.

More than 3,500 people work for the Trust - they tell us it's a great place to work, blending the busyness of a DGH with the benefits of working in a beautiful rural and unspoilt county like Herefordshire.

We can offer a great work-life balance and have a fine tradition of working with staff to help them achieve their full potential.

Russell Hardy, Trust Chairman: "The strength of the Trust is its amazing staff; a great place to work, a great place to develop your career and a great place to reach your potential."

Our values -Care, Accountability, Respect and Excellence - are at the heart of all we do. We believe in providing the right care in the right place at the right time...all the time.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We have an extremely high number of Fellows who successfully use this year to springboard into competitive national training schemes, and are proud to have some of the best student feedback in the region.

"With the support of the faculty, this job allows you to maximise your portfolio of educational activities, undertake the PGCert with sponsorship should you choose to, and keep up clinical skills by remaining on the on call rota in your parent specialty." NT, Anaesthetic Senior Clinical Education Fellow on receiving preferred ST3 training post.

''I was originally hesitant to take the post of CEF owing to the fact that I had no teaching experience in the UK and I was unsure if I would be able to meet expectations. However right from day 1 at induction it was as clear as daylight that I had made the right decision. The whole education team is extremely supportive and very accommodating. This job enabled me to achieve immense growth both as a teacher and a clinician and after working in this role I actually learnt all the underlying principles of health education and it made a vast difference in my approach to teaching, both to medical students and junior doctors.

The Emergency Department is one of the most friendly and supportive workplace that I have worked at. It is an amazing place to improve and grow as a clinician because of great emphasis being put into personal development. There are numerous opportunities to learn new clinical skills and regular teaching, and an overall culture encouraging one to evolve and accomplish short and long term goals. The best thing about this job is that I feel I am working with friends, rather than colleagues- it is a very healthy and pleasant environment to work in.''Dr MR, successful international applicant to ED CEF role

We combine these excellent educational and clinical opportunities with the friendly, supportive nature of a small district general hospital and the beauty of life in the Wye Valley.
