Job summary

Due to the continued development and growth of the Pre-operative Assessment Unit, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse/HCPC to join our dynamic and progressive team.

The preoperative assessment unit is a nurse-led service with support from Consultant Anaesthetists. You will be part of a supportive team but you will need to be able to work independently within a clinic and utilise your critical thinking skills. You will assess the patient's health status, recognising any risks of surgery/ anaesthesia so that they can be minimised, eliminated or accommodated prior to surgery, according to agreed pathways.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the pre-operative assessment of patients being prepared for a wide variety of surgical procedures. This candidate will be required to undergo the Preoperative Assessment Association course within the first two years working for the department, which will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To provide effective Nurse led Pre-Operative Assessment toallelective or urgent surgical patients across all specialties and work within the multi-disciplinary team. To gain and be confident with clinical decision making related to anaesthesia.

We have recently introduced and digital documentation system to provide all of our patients with a higher standard of care. Utilising clinical noting and email to document clearly and communicate with the multi-disciplinary team is extremely important. Some of the surgical specialties include; orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology, breast, ENT, general surgery, dental, dermatology, colorectal, and ophthalmology.
