Job summary

The Dermatology Team at the Wye Valley skin centre are looking for a dynamic Paediatric nurse to help in the support and treatment of children and young people with skin conditions. The successful candidate will initially work alongside our existing paediatric CNS as a period of transition. Previous dermatology or allergy knowledge would be desired but not essential. We anticipate a period of training initially to consolidate training and competencies.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to support and work with our dermatologists. The post holder will be working with the dermatologists that see children with dermatological conditions to provide and co-ordinate a supportive service for patients, carers and their families. This post holder will be required to have a good knowledge of safe guarding procedures.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the post include:

To contribute to the development of the paediatric Dermatology Nursin Service for Herefordshire.

To work closely with the Dermatology Consultants/speciality Doctors on the progress of patients and all matters concerning client welfare

To manage a patient caseload to include monitoring of systemic or biologic therapy, liaising with tertiary centre.

Support clients and families when attending for minor skin surgery within the department when required.

To provide specialist knowledge and skills to support the paediatric dermatology service including phlebotomy.

To participate in the development of policies, evidence based specialist protocols and clinical guidelines necessary to support the developing paediatric dermatology nursing service.

  • PA/PS course
  • Counselling course (minimum 3 days Advanced Communication Skills Training)
  • Leadership ability
  • Accredited course in Dermatology

  • Effective and sensitive handling of difficult information and situations

  • Sufficient experience to demonstrate paediatric skin conditions and the treatment
