Assistant Medical Secretary - Rheumatology

The purpose of this job is to provide support to the medical secretaries and consultants in the Ambulatory & Frailty Directorate.

The role involves supporting the medical secretaries and the rest of the team and typing clinical correspondence to adhere to standard turnaround times. The role is initially based in the Rheumatology department but there may need to be flexibility in working through Division as service needs require.

Main duties of the job

  • Type correspondence, clinic letters, medical reports, etc using digital dictation and transcribe ensuring workload is typed in chronological order, prioritised, produced in a timely manner and to an agreed standard.
  • Answering departmental phone calls in a courteous and professional manner.
  • To be a proficient user of the required electronic systems for correspondence, recording, retrieval and maintenance of information using EPR (electronic patient record) Maxims, TA+, Transcribe, SQL, WVT reports.
  • Taking Advice and Guidance requests from the Advice and Guidance answering machine and relevant email accounts, forwarding on the request to the appropriate Clinician.
