Job summary
The Ophthalmology Outpatient Department & Ophthalmology Theatres have a vacancy for a full time and part time Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse with a minimum of 2 years nursing care experience at level 1 in an ophthalmology department or theatres.
The post holder will work rotational over Monday to Friday, with one weekends in four on shift, which will be equally apportioned amongst the established junior sister team.
The post holder will act as a positive role model, promote effective teamwork and encourage continuous development in the department/theatre environment.
Alongside the Senior Sister, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. You will help in supporting the performance management of the nursing team as well as supporting the co-ordination and facilitation of educational and development needs of staff in their clinical practice appropriate to the clinic environment.
Informal visits are actively encouraged to understand this role as part of your application process.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assume overall responsibility for all patients in the department/theatre in the absence of the Senior Sister.
The post holder will have the:

- Ability to assess patients, plan care for a group of patients, deliver care and evaluate the effectiveness of care given.
- Ability to organise own workload whilst supervising others.
- Good analytical skills for assessing and interpreting acute and other complex patient conditions, recognize deterioration and take appropriate action.
