Job summary
Leading the senior members of the pathology team, this role will provide leadership and management in relation to this clinical service area.
The post holder will also have responsibility for ensuring a strong service vision and for ensuring compliance with Trust wide requirements, e.g. clinical governance, risk and quality/cost improvement. This post will also play a key role in ensuring Wye Valley is represented in the development of South Midlands Pathology Network.
Main duties of the job
- Attend and chair meetings of the WVT Pathology Management Board.
- Engage with internal and external clinical stakeholders and represent their views to the Pathology Management Board and in other forums.
- Attend the South Midlands Pathology Stakeholder and Management Boards
- Support the Associate Chief Medical Officer (Clinical Support) to manage medical staff within the department and their role in the provision of services, through job planning in line with Trust policy, and including management of underperformance.
- Working with the General Manager and Heads of Departments taking accountability and responsibility for non-medical staff within the department and their role in the provision of services.
- Work closely with the General Manager for Diagnostics on all aspects of service delivery, including operational planning.
- Meet with pathology laboratory heads of department and managers on a regular basis to ensure that operational and quality priorities are supported and delivered.
- Ensure effective communication and engagement with staff employed within WVT Pathology in key decisions and initiatives as appropriate.
- Communicate to internal and external stakeholders (e.g. ICBs, service users) on pathology issues.
- Ensure that WVT Pathology has appropriate professional clinical advice and direction to ensure it is providing clinically appropriate, safe and effective services that meet the needs and requirements of users.
