This post will attract a Recruitment and Retention Premia** totalling £5,000 (payable in instalments over 2 years), plus a relocation package of up to £8,000 (subject to eligibility criteria). The RRP payment will be pro-rata for part-time employees.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Pharmacist with an interest in General Surgery. The post involves leading the provision of medicines optimization to our General Surgery teams in a varied and dynamic division.

The successful candidate will work closely with the ward based teams implementing the principles of the modern day ward round, using skills, knowledge and experience to directly impact on patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Lead and support the pharmacy Service provided to the Surgical Specialities Directorate, which includes general surgery, colorectal surgery, urology surgery and breast surgery.
  • Work closely with the consultant surgeons, the lead and specialist nurses, and other staff members associated with the pharmacy service to the Surgical Specialities Directorate.
  • Be responsible for coordinating pharmacy clinical services to the Directorate, oversee and investigate medicines related safety incidents in the Directorate, monitor financial and clinical governance in the Directorate.
  • To lead on guidelines for the prescribing, administration and storage of gastroenterology related medicines to facilitate good practice within the surgical specialities, within the Acute Trust and across the primary and secondary care interface.
  • To provide training and education to all levels of Healthcare professionals in acute and primary care whilst linking into national networks to learn about developments to share across the network.
  • Be involved in the operational delivery of the clinical pharmacy service at Wye Valley NHS Trust and be a role model to junior pharmacy staff and support their development.
  • Support 7 day clinical services to the Trust on a departmental rotational weekend rota basis (currently 1:5), including Bank Holidays. Although not formally part of the Pharmacy on call team this post holder may be asked to contribute.

Essential

  • MPharm & registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
  • Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience to a similar level
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification or prepared to be working towards this
  • Evidence of CPD and study beyond registration in line with requirements for revalidation and demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning.

Desirable

  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Post Graduate qualifications relating to Surgical Speciality medicine or be willing to work towards this

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to Surgical Specialities
  • Able to process complex clinical information in an accurate and timely manner

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of best practice and legal requirements relating to medicines use within the cardiology specialty
