Job summary

To provide consistent, high quality medical support to the General Surgical Team, within Wye Valley NHS Trust. The Physician Associate will work alongside the Specialist Doctors and Specialist Nurses in to assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment. Career development will be encouraged and supported with opportunities to develop expertise in out-patient and in-patient management of conditions and in performing practical procedures.

It is expected that the post holder will become independent in these areas after suitable training.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing Physician Associate team at Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford.

The Trust have developed an Advanced Practice Academy for education and training, a Physician Associate Forum and continues to create opportunities for Physician Associates to develop within the role. Physician Associates are valued in the Trust and work well with the clinical teams to support patient care on the wards as part of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Degree at 2:2 level or above
  • PG Dip in Physician Associate Studies from a UK PA programme
  • Current and valid certification or re-certification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes registration on the UK Physician Associate Register (the PA Managed Voluntary Register)

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner
  • Ability to adhere to regulations as well as work flexibly to meet the needs of the Trust
