Job summary
We are seeking a HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our team with an interest in advanced Biomedical Scientist dissection. The department is undergoing significant development and change with a focus on BMS dissection, lead laboratory for the implementation of digital pathology and the expansion of the immunohistochemistry service. Reporting to the Cellular Pathology manager, the successful candidate will be a good communicator, possess excellent organisational skills and have a positive view to supporting our exciting and rapidly developing department.
The City of Hereford is set in glorious English countryside, close to the Welsh border with the hospital serving a large geographical area covering Herefordshire and mid-Wales. The department handles approximately 15 000 requests per year and is well equipped with three Epredia tissue processors, including a Revos and Ventana Benchmark Ultra immunostainer. The range of procedures performed includes routine surgical cut up, immunohistochemistry, skin immunofluorescence, frozen section and fluid polaroscopy.
Main duties of the job
- Advanced dissection
- Ensuring all appropriate senior staff are kept informed of any issues, escalating as appropriate
- Production of standard operating procedures
- Staff training and competency assessments
- Ensuring all appropriate documentation required for accreditation is adequate
- Ensuring all work is performed and reported within a timely manner
- To maintain competency in all appropriate sections of the Histopathology Laboratory.
