Job summary

This post is a permanent full-time (10 session) hospital based middle grade position in acute Paediatrics, which will allow us to expand our middle grade tier to five. The post holder will work with the resident Consultants of this District General Hospital to offer a first class service to the population of Herefordshire and surrounding catchment area.

Main duties of the job

This post offers an applicant with a background in paediatrics the opportunity to develop a key role in the department. The duties of the post include paediatric and neonatal ward work, outpatient clinics, assessment and treatment of patients in the Paediatric Assessment Unit and sharing with the Consultants the supervision and teaching of junior doctors. Other duties may in exceptional circumstances, be required to maintain a safe high quality service

There will be opportunities for in-service training and development of a special interest or participation in the CESR programme. Wye Valley NHS Trust believes in investing in our staff to develop local consultants and leaders of the future. We support all SAS doctors by investing in local teaching programmes for Generic Professional Capabilities such as Human Factors training, Leadership development and Quality Improvement training. Additionally we offer a consultant supervisor to all our SAS doctors in paediatrics who will support you to seek out the GMC and RCPCH competencies that you need to apply for a consultant post via the CESR route if you wish to pursue this. Research opportunities may be available within the trust and within the department through our dedicated paediatric research nurse and lead consultant. The Trust has two SAS tutors who advocate for this group of doctors, link with the wider SAS network in HEE and organise the monthly teaching afternoons for SAS doctors and other senior staff.
