Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post at the Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT).
A full time (10 PA) Consultant post is being advertised. This is an additional post, approved to meet additional demand. The post is intended to be whole-time, but applications would be considered from candidates wishing for personal or domestic reasons to work part-time.
The successful candidate will join the existing establishment of 12 full time Consultant Radiologists in providing a comprehensive Radiology service to the population of Herefordshire Health District plus a catchment population from mid Wales and referrals from parts of surrounding counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gwent (total population 230,000).
The post holder should have broad radiology experience including plain film reporting, barium studies, ultrasound, CT and MRI. A special interest will be welcome if it is complementary to the needs of the department.
The post holder will be expected to take part in departmental audit and clinical governance issues, provide training and education to medical and other departmental staff as required and participate in Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) Meetings.
The post holder will be required to participate in the on-call rota which is currently 1:10.
Main duties of the job
The job plan and proposed timetable will be organised to meet the needs of the department and will be by mutual agreement. The job plan will be for 10 programmed activities (PA's) to include up to 2.5 SPAs . The working week would consist of 7.5 PA's for direct clinical care per week. In the first year 2.5 SPAs would consist of 1.5 core SPAs + 1 to develop departmental priorities which can then be formally built into the job plan in subsequent years From year 2, there will be 1.5 core SPAs + 1 for additional agreed responsibilities. Unused SPA time would be expected to be used for direct clinical care.
The 7.5 DCC Pas will include 1 PA On call, 1 PA for MDT prep and attendance, at least 1 each of CT, MRI and ultrasound.
Participation in MDT's and their distribution will depend on area of expertise and special interest.
A degree of flexibility would be expected in relation to the departmental duties, particularly when colleagues are absent on leave to maintain service commitments.
Supporting activity time should be used for teaching, training, education, CPD, audit, appraisal revalidation, administration, research and service development - Evidence will be expected to ensure this time is being used appropriately.
About us
The County Hospital is a purpose built PFI acute District General Hospital which became fully operational in Summer 2002, replacing facilities delivered on three separate sites. The Hospital serves a population of approximately 230,000 from Herefordshire, Powys and other neighbouring counties.
All major DGH specialities are provided on one site. The current bed complement in Hereford is 220 adult and paediatric acute medical and surgical beds with 20 day case beds. Additional beds in community hospitals are managed by the Trust. Oncology services are provided from Cheltenham, Vascular Surgery from Worcester and the remainder from Birmingham. Radiotherapy is also provided on site, run by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
