Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing Physician Associate team at Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford.

The Trust employs 13 Physician Associates and have developed an Advanced Practice Academy for education and training, a Physician Associate Forum and continues to create opportunities for Physician Associates to develop within the role. Physician Associates are valued in the Trust and work well with the clinical teams to support patient care on the wards as part of the multidisciplinary team.

We are advertising for Physician Associate in Frailty + Stroke.

Full and part time hours considered.

Main duties of the job

To provide consistent, high quality medical support to the Frailty and Stroke Departments. The Physician Associate will work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide the medical component of a comprehensive geriatric assessment. This will involve the initial assessment of frail older patients presenting acutely to Wye Valley NHS Trust. Working alongside Specialist Doctors to assess, examine the acutely ill frailer older person and stroke patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment. A holistic approach is essential and will involve liaising with the other members of the MDT

The post holder will be expected to develop good working relationships with healthcare providers ranging from primary to tertiary care. The post will also offer opportunities to rotate to other specialties and will be aimed at ensuring completion of educational and development requirements to attain professional re-validation.

The post holder is accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times and that standards of care and treatment meet the department's requirements.

The post holder is expected to work with the Frailty and Stroke Department MDTs to take forward best practice and professional issues within the Directorate. The post holder is expected to be an excellent role model for Physician Associates and to represent the department at local and external meetings as appropriate
