Job summary
An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing Physician Associate team at Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford.
The Trust employs 13 Physician Associates and have developed an Advanced Practice Academy for education and training, a Physician Associate Forum and continues to create opportunities for Physician Associates to develop within the role. Physician Associates are valued in the Trust and work well with the clinical teams to support patient care on the wards as part of the multidisciplinary team.
We are advertising for Physician Associate in Gastroenterology.
Main duties of the job
The Physician Associate will work within the multi-disciplinary team to provide the medical component of a comprehensive Gastroenterology service. This will involve the initial assessment of Gastroenterology and Hepatology patients presenting acutely to Wye Valley NHS Trust. Working alongside Specialist Doctors to assess, examine the acutely ill Gastroenterology in-patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment. A holistic approach is essential and will involve liaising with the other members of the MDT
The successful candidate will be mentored and taught how to manage Gastroenterology and Hepatology inpatients, including artificial nutrition support, procedures such as abdominal paracentesis and investigation such as FibroScan. A Physician Associate demonstrating appropriate progression and ability may also be offered the opportunity to undertake Gastroenterology outpatient clinics or become a non-medical endoscopist.
The post holder will be expected to develop good working relationships with healthcare providers ranging from primary to tertiary care. The post will also offer opportunities to rotate to other specialities and will be aimed at ensuring completion of educational and development requirements to attain professional revalidation.
The post holder is accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times and that standards of care and treatment meet the department's requirements.
