Both in-patient services and out-patient services are provided at the County Hospital, there is a fully equipped Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and 6 bed Coronary Care Unit. All medical wards are specialty based with Lugg Ward designated the Cardiology ward (shared with one other specialty). Thereare currently 15 cardiology beds on Lugg.

The current team run a generic team based service for both in and out patients, it is envisaged that this approach would continue with the new appointee taking a full role in the service and future service development and design.

Main duties of the job

That week would include a Saturday and Sunday morning CCU round and ward round with referrals also seen (extra contractual if agreed and either remunerated by negotiated pay or time off in lieu). To enable consistent seven day working annual leave cannot be taken during the wards week unless by a direct agreed swap with acolleague. General cardiology on call will be on a fixed weekday (not covered prospectively) and 1 in 6 at weekends (Friday through Sunday). A clinic workload will be either 11 follow up patients (telephone clinic) or 3 new and 6 follow up patients (face to face).

On other weeks 3 PAs of clinical time will be dedicated to complex TTE, TOE, and stress echocardiography.
