Job summary

Laboratory Assistant (Microbiology) Covid Testing (1 year Fixed term contract)

No previous experience required full training given.

The Microbiology laboratory team at Wye Valley NHS Trust require enthusiastic and committed staff for the 24/7 Covid Rapid Testing service using PCR molecular techniques .

The job entails receiving, labelling, booking-in, processing samples and reporting results via computer & phone. 6hr or 12 hr day shifts and 12hr night shifts lone working.

Main duties of the job

Receiving phone calls from clinical and nursing staff requests Covid tests on a dedicated mobile phone

Receiving sample for checking , labelling and preparing for testing

Entering patient information and results on the lab computer system

Perform rapid testing technique for Covid using PCR molecular testing procedures involving sample preparation, pipetting and analyser operation

Maintaining a clean and well managed work environment for health and safety reasons

Recording results on the computer and reporting clinically relevant results to clinical and nursing staff
