Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in the West Midlands Cancer Alliance for a Senior Programme Manager - Operational and Quality Improvement to join this dynamic, high profile and busy teamon a permanent basis to lead the performance and quality improvement work across provider organisations.

The Senior Programme Manager will provide professional expertise to lead and enable delivery of the Midlands Cancer Alliance improvement programme; overseeing projects that contribute to operational performance and pathway improvement that result in improved outcomes for patients. With proven senior operational experience in cancer services, key responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day programme and project delivery, to drive up operational performance against the constitutional Cancer Waiting Time standards and in line with the Quality agenda.

The West Midlands Cancer Alliance team is hosted at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust working across the wider West Midlands footprint. This role requires regular travel visiting provider organisations across the Midlands and attending team corporate days in central Birmingham.

Ability to travel across the West Midlands is a key requirement of this job.

Operational requirements

  • Working within the overall strategic objectives, devise, implement and monitor the Operational Performance and Improvement strategy. Evaluate, interpret, and locally implement best practice, focusing on achieving the constitutional standards for Cancer Waiting Times.
  • Provide overall management to the operational performance and improvement programme.
  • Develop and implement qualitative and quantitative measures to determine performance against the organisational strategy. Report progress against the strategy through personal representation at senior management forums and by written reports. Tailoring delivery to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ensure that best practice is developed and delivered at organisational and departmental levels. Challenge ways of working and persuade, motivate, and influence other stakeholders to realign their practice where necessary.
