Are you passionate about working with adults in the community? Are you organised and looking to work within community multidisciplinary teams?
Due to an internal promotion we are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our community team on a part-time basis.
You will be part of the team delivering communication and dysphagia services in out-patient clinics and community settings. The SLT Rehab and Community Team comprises of SLT staff from band 7 to band 3 and is embedded as part of the wider MDT. We also provide acute and rehab inpatient services and are able to provide a smooth transition for patients across all areas of service.
We have access to instrumental dysphagia assessment, a supportive admin team, embedded supervision and support structures for both professional development and wellbeing. As part of a large teaching organisation, CPD is very well supported and actively encouraged.
The Rehab and Community Team sit within a wider adult service with access to a wealth of experience and support in the areas of critical care, acute stroke, acute inpatients, head and neck and voice, CNRT and community.
We also benefit from being part of a large SLT service which includes children's services allowing opportunities for cross-service development projects. We have very strong AHP leadership within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior post with clinical responsibility for adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke. There are opportunities to work with other patient groups.
The post holder will work in the rehab team delivering SLT to Community patients but may be required to work in other settings on an occasional basis.
The post holder will be a member of the multidisciplinary community and rehab team.
The post holder will -
assess, diagnose and manage own specialist caseloads of complex patients as an autonomous clinician in accordance with Professional Code of Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council Regulations.
participate in the development and delivery of training to others.
provide support to Speech and Language Therapy team members regarding clients presenting with complex communication and swallowing disorders associated with stroke and acquired neurological conditions.
supervise Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners and volunteers.
provide student placements.
contribute to the induction, mentoring and support of other less experienced staff.
