Point of Care Testing Officer

Job summary
We require an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual, experienced in performing Phlebotomy for the post of Point of Care Testing Officer within the Black Country Pathology Service.
The successful candidate will be based New Cross Hospital but will be expected to travel and work across the four partner Trust sites and any outlying sites.
The role will include collecting blood samples from patients through venepuncture and analysing the samples in a clinic setting allowing results for review during the clinic. The role also includes being actively involved in the monitoring of all Point of Care Testing (POCT) instrumentation which will include troubleshooting, quality control, audit and ensuring training records are maintained.
It is essential that you hold a full driving licence, have a good understanding of laboratory processes and extensive phlebotomy experience.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to work as part of a team within the Point of Care Testing Department within the Black Country Pathology Service. After training they will be required to :-
Provide technical support for Haematology clinics
Provide phlebotomy support for Haematology clinics and other areas when necessary
Concentration and attention to detail are essential to these processes and form the greater part of the working day. The post holder will require excellent organisational skills as they will be expected to plan their own daily activities which will depend on the status of the POCT equipment and the needs of the clinical users.
Whilst the post holder will be based at New Cross Hospital the role is BCPS wide and duties cover all disciplines and outlying hospitals/facilities. This will involve travel to, and from these hospitals and institutions.
