Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated person to join the Administration Team in the Emergency Services, providing an efficient and welcoming service to patients and relatives.

Following a Local Induction, you will be trained in each of the below areas to ensure you have the correct tools for undertaking the various clerical duties within the Emergency Services Directorate:

You will be fully trained in all our Administration duties relevant to this role, enabling you to accurately update and maintain patient's hospital records.

Emergency Department

Acute Medical Unit

ED Main Reception

AMU Main Reception

ED Coordinators

AMU Coordinators

ED Ambulance Receiving Centre

AMU Ward

Same Day Emergency Care Reception

It is essential that you possess excellent communication skills and able to organise your own workload along side supporting colleague for breaks.

The successful applicant will also be required to cover in colleague's absence, even at short notice this will include Bank Holidays, Weekends and Out of hours shifts therefore flexibility is essential as this is 24-hour service 365 days of the year.

Flexibility in post is essential for the needs of a 365 day and 24 hr Service.

Main duties of the job

To undertake various clerical duties associated with the custody and use of Health Records. This to include all administrative procedures and documentation associated with a patient's admission and/or attendance to the Emergency Services.

To accurately in-put, up-date and monitor patient related information onto the computerised Patient Administration System and the Emergency Departments MSS System

To provide a front line staff 24 hour patient focused reception service, ensuring that the service is efficient and welcoming, including directing patients/staff/relatives to other departments and dealing with aggressive/abusive patients in a calm and professional manner.

To deal with patient/relative enquires either face to face or by telephone in a professional manner.

To liaise with other departments regarding patient admission/attendance and arrange assistance as required, e.g. arranging for porters to collect patients with wheelchairs or PALS . To arrange transport for patients as required.
