This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in Head and Neck Cancer to join The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. This a locum position to join a team of 6 Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons

Main duties of the job
- Provide and develop with clinical colleagues, an integrated Head and Neck service for the Trust. This may involve all disciplines including primary and tertiary care.
- Participate in the structural development of the Head and Neck service, treatment protocols and guidelines and extend knowledge in the management of Head and Neck conditions.
- Provide a consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
- Work with other members of the Maxillofacial team to provide a comprehensive general surgical service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and General Practitioners.
- Participate in the Maxillofacial on-call rota with consultant colleagues to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out-of-normal working hours.
- Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty. This will include the appraisal of SHOs and SpRs.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

The Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants and their associated team provide comprehensive services across 3 NHS Trusts which include New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, and Manor Hospital in Walsall. All major inpatient work is carried out at New Cross Hospital whereas the other two units carry out Outpatient and Day Case procedures.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a recognised Cancer Centre providing comprehensive Head and Neck services (including major reconstruction with free flaps) under a specialised MDT and joint oncology clinics. These services are supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, MacMillan Cancer Support, Speech & Language Therapists, Dieticians, Palliative and Hospice care, highly skilled Maxillofacial Prosthetics Team and in the process of appointing a Restorative Consultant.
The management of skin malignancy has become a big part of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery over the last 5 years. The service is currently provided as day-stay procedures within the department and specialist day care unit.
