Job summary

Responsible for providing expert specialist fire safety advice to the organisation and other associated external healthcare organisations (contracted by service agreement) on all matters relating to people and premises.Leading a team of specialist fire safety advisors located within the Division of Estates and Facilities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, Health Technical Memorandum guidance, Firecode and that the RWT fire policy is implemented and effective.Designing, developing and delivering an extensive programme of bespoke and general fire safety training to a wide audience base in order to achieve compliance with KPI's determined by the Trust.Providing professional specialist fire safety advice both internally and externally (via SLA) to capital project planning, design, construction and commissioning teams.

Main duties of the job

Senior consultant for the interpretation and implementation of Fire Safety Policies and the organisation and management of fire precautions in the Trust's premises.

To survey and report on the standard of fire safety in all of the Trust's premises and those areas where Trust staff work, participating in fire risk assessment (which may be part of a multi-disciplinary exercise), advising on matters of risk management relating to fire safety in accordance with HTM 05 Managing healthcare fire safety.

To carry out Fire Risk Assessments as required by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in complex buildings and maintain records of significant findings.

To liaise with internal and external organisations, planning teams, contractors, local building control and Fire Authority in the specification of fire precautions in new and existing premises including alterations.

To take responsibility for the preparation and delivery of fire safety training programmes for this Trust and other contracted organisations and responding to requests for training from managers.

To provide a Senior Advisory role in respect of monitoring the implementation by others of regular maintenance of firefighting appliances and other equipment, including the checking of fire alarm systems/equipment and maintaining records.

Line Manager to other fire safety staff, responsible for attendance, appraisal ,capability, CPD etc.
