Job summary
The post holder will be based in the Renal section of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department and will manage the specialist technical support provided for the Renal Unit as part of the Critical Care Service. The post holder will carry out procedures that will be complex and non-routine. Duties will include carrying out PPM and repair of renal medical/water treatment equipment within the Trust including satellite units/contract units and home dialysis. They carry out the servicing and repair of washer disinfectors and associated water treatment systems used in a number of locations in the Trust. At times may be required to undertake clinical duties associated with the delivery of renal therapies.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have technical responsibility for the broad range of work provided and will be expected to work to a high level of skill. The majority their work is expected to be of a high complexity. The post holder will liaise closely with the senior staff of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department.
A particular responsibility will be the need to establish and maintain effective professional links with clinical users of the technical service within the Renal Unit. The post holder will be expected to optimise these services and will ensure that the high skill levels required are deployed in a cost-effective manner. They will be involved in training, and there will be a significant administrative content within their work.
The clinically based Technologist, working closely with patients, will provide the necessary technical expertise to support the medical and nursing staff where advanced technology and complex techniques are being used. When required, support will be available at any time from the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department.
This service will be provided over seven days per week, with on-call and overtime as necessary, and the post holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to negotiate appropriate flexible working hours. They should have properly insured personal transport available. This will be a four-wheeled vehicle.
