Job summary
Offering an exiting training and development opportunity, the Clinical Technologist will be based in the Surgical Engineering Section (SE) providing specialist technical support to all areas of the Trust and select offsite departments. The post holder will be expected to work autonomously to an extremely high standard of safety for patients and staff requiring a high level of skill and knowledge.
In addition to maintaining medical equipment such as Defibrillators, Gas Therapy, Specialist Dental Systems, Birthing Beds, Physiotherapy apparatus and many more, there will be a requirement to carry out fabrication work using various materials, and heavy machinery such as Drills, Lathes and Rotary Abrasive machinery.
The recruitment process following shortlisting, will comprise of a two-stage process on the same day involvingStage Aconsisting of Q&A's, followed by Stage B a Practical test.
Candidates will be required to attend a face-to-face interview and a practical assessment on site, no remote interviews will be considered
Main duties of the job
The majority of the work being on highly complex life support/patient critical medical equipment which incorporates electronic, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems. A high level of knowledge and understanding of specialist surgical instrumentation and medical devices will be required. The post holder will be responsible for the commissioning, repair and maintenance complex/critical medical equipment e.g. defibrillator/monitors, AED defibrillators, flexible endoscopes, Surgical instrumentation and specialist maternity birthing beds. They will be involved in training of medical/nursing and technical staff in the safe use of medical devices and workshop machinery.
The post holder should have properly insured personal transport available. This will be a four-wheeled vehicle. The work will include duties on all Trust sites.
Some work in the Department may require post holders to be available outside normal patient treatment times. The service will normally be provided up to 7 days per week, with on call and overtime as necessary with the post holder expected to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to negotiate flexible working hours as appropriate.
There will also be a need to undergo Technical and Educational training courses which may require the need to travel to external venues. This may require extended hours or the requirement for you to use overnight accommodation.
